I say that because the first one I received, arrived DOA Amazon was vry responsive and shipped me another one immediately.
So, after opening this unit and charging it up for good measure, i proceeded to test its functionality at finding wireless cameras, hidden wireless cameras The case is all aluminum metal and I have included a photo of its size compared to ball point pen. I would probably buy this again, as it does work, with the understanding that you have to be rather close to some of the devices youre trying to find, in other words I'm not a super electronics expert, so if you need more technical information, I am not that guy This is a cute little device, seems well-made, I'll give it a try at a hotel tomorrow.
The instructions are written in very poor English but understandable. Many of the glowing reviews for this product interestingly the only reviews written by those folks have a similar structure. I guess they thought they needed to pad the reviews to sell the product, when actually honest good reviews would have done it.
So, don't base your decision on all the great reviews. Decide if it's something you want to try without being fooled into buying it. One person found this helpful.
You start off at a high setting that drop it back as you get closer to a rf source. I started off testing it with a known source such as a wifi or a cell phone. I did this to make sure I had the feel for it. I will say somethings to keep in mind are there are a lot of gizmos that give off rf energy that we forget about.
When I started playing with it it would go off randomly if I got it close to my mid section. I started pulling stuff out of my pockets and checking them item by item. Then finally as I pulled out my keychain it dawned on me it was my car fob that sends out a signal to the car letting it know to unlock the door and start the engine.
Sure enough when I brought the fob close to the device it lit up. That's the thing - i tested for 2 or 3 evenings. Something is detected. Definitely wifi routers Oh yes. Something was detected in the middle of the room, in the air pretty much.
Which means there is an interferential node caused but all combined hardware. Here is why i put 3 stars: - i love anodized aluminum the body built of - there were no 3 stars review so i feel its not an accurate assessment. For those of you that are worried since its "cheap from china" and have read the reviews about it going off all the time, dont worry.
It is a simple device but it works surprisingly well. If it "goes off all the time" you either have the sensitivity turned up all the way or are standing next to something that is broadcasting. If you have home wifi, it will pick it up anywhere in the house and probably for a block or two if turned all the way up. This is a good thing not a bad thing. You should turn your wifi and cell phones off when using it but you just turn the sensitivity down to where you're getting one or 2 yellow bars but its not beeping.
Move it around until it goes off, turn the sensitivity down some more, move it around again to see where the signal is coming from and repeat until you find the device you're picking up. Its just a simple RF receiver and needs to be used as one. Its not magic. It has an internal rechargeable battery and comes with a USB cable and wall plug for charging it.
Mini D like an older cell phone or modern camera. Its light weight with a nice metal finish. Its not plastic and doesn't seem cheap at all. Its just simple and gets the job done. Im happy with it. If you're having problems finding your major kitchen or house appliances, then this is the product for you!
